Teamwork ... and Friendships!
AFJROTC students learn nearly all of their leadership skills through teamwork; consequently, every aspect of the AFJROTC program is focused on teamwork. Through teamwork, students quickly learn that "the whole is greater than the sum of the parts", in other words, they accomplish more by working together as a team rather than as individuals. You’ve heard the saying that that "there’s no ‘I’ in teamwork", and the best way for students to grow as effective leaders is through teamwork, emphasizing the Air Force’s Core Values of "Service Before Self" and "Excellence In All We Do".
Teamwork can be found in our classroom and in every AFJROTC extracurricular activity. In the classroom, we have numerous academic projects conducted by groups, or "teams"; we have Team Leadership Exercises; and we emphasize teamwork throughout our Wellness Program. Outside of class, teamwork is critical, such as in Drill and Ceremony, in the Kitty Hawk Air Society, and in completing Community Service projects.
Friendships are always cherished, and through teamwork our AFJROTC students build long lasting friendships with each other. The friendships students gain from working with each other for as many as four years in AFJROTC are immeasurable, and considered by students to be "the unwritten benefit of being in AFJROTC".
